  • Attended Duquesne University, then the University of Maryland, graduating with a dual major in the sciences and education on January 22, 1970. Graduate work at the University of Maryland encompassed fisheries and the environment.
  • Taught middle and high school sciences, usually focusing on the environment.
  • Combined fisheries research with teaching, specializing in the collection and aging of larval fish using otoliths.
  • While working as Director of Education at an environmental non-profit, wrote "POW: The Planning of Wetlands", a curriculum guide for teachers.
  • Served as a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician, firefighter, instructor, and member of  special rescue operations for 16 years.
  • Was elected and served as Chairman of Costal Conservation Association Maryland, the first woman to serve in that position in any state chapter of this national recreational fishing organization.
  • Established a business creating and maintaining websites for small businesses and politicians, assisting in the election of a U.S. Congressman and a capital city mayor.
