- The 1863 Schedule 1 "LIST of all persons of CLASS I, subject to do military
duty" included John Selby, 25, a single white farmer born

- Pvt. John Selby served in Company I of the Maryland
Infantry (Confederate). He enlisted June 15, 1861 at Richmond (three weeks after brothers Joseph and James), but was absent sick at Front Royal October 8, 1861 through December. John was admitted to General Hospital No. 21 at Richmond on March 12, 1862 with diarrhea and returned to duty April 12, 1862. He was admitted to the same hospital April 21, 1862 with dysentary and returned to duty May 6, 1862. He was admitted to CSA General Hospital at Charlottesville May 25, 1862 with "debilitas" and returned to duty June 18, 1862. [Fold3.com]

- John M. Selby died on Sunday, January 29, 1899. The funeral was
from his late residence, 435 Seventh Street SE, Washington, DC, with
